Skin is entitled to a breath of fresh air! Exfoliation encourages the skin to rejuvenate itself as nature intended.

The Renewal Cycle

Skin is a growing, living organ that constantly renews itself. In healthy, young skin this regenerative cycle is roughly 28 days from the birth of a new cell that becomes the skin you see.

Why Exfoliate?

Many factors such as age, stress and genetics can affect and slow down the regenerative cycle of the skin. Dry dead skin cells build up daily giving the skin a dull, lifeless appearance. Fine lines and wrinkles may appear more noticeable, and any dead cells that linger on your skin can prevent your skin care products from effective penetration. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells to reveal younger, healthier skin cells. Skin is left with a fresh glow, a softer feel and a more luminous appearance.

Ask Yourself:

Does your skin look lackluster?
Does your skin tone appear uneven?
Does your skin feel less than smooth?
Are fine lines and wrinkles a concern to you?

If you answered 'yes' to any of the questions above, your skin could benefit from increased exfoliation.

Exfoliation Products

Merle Norman offers a number of exfoliating products for your skin care needs.

Ask your Beauty Consultant to recommend the exfoliating products that will benefit your skin.

To instantly brighten and polish the skin:

  • LUXIVA® Polished Perfection uses fruit enzymes and finely milled apricot and jojoba seed powder to gently buff away lackluster skin cells.

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) promote the shedding of dead skin cells with natural substances derived from fruit, milk plants and sugarcane. As a result, skin is healthier looking with improved tone and clarity. Merle Norman products containing AHAs include:

  • LUXIVA® AHA Toner (available in oily and dry skin formulas)
  • LUXIVA® AHA Intensive Complex For sensitive skin types who need an alternative to AHAs:
  • LUXIVA® Renew is a gentle, silky treatment lotion with non-acid ingredients to enhance the skin's natural exfoliation process.

We recommend applying daily sun protection whenever an exfoliating product is used.

Did You know ...

  • Increased exfoliation can speed up cell renewal. By sloughing off dead skin cells, it makes way for a fresh layer of skin.
  • Exfoliation can help keep pores clog-free.
  • An accumulation of dead skin cells can accentuate fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Exfoliation helps prepare the skin to better receive the benefits of moisturizers and treatment products.
  • Surface dead skin cells tend to grab makeup, causing it to appear uneven.
  • By the time a woman reaches 50, her cell turnover rate has decreased by nearly 50 percent.
  • Exfoliation prior to self-tanning helps to achieve a more even color.
